The Backstory

US Highway 50 runs the entire breadth of our great nation.

The western terminus is in West Sacramento, which is where one sees this road sign.  And, quite obviously, the eastern terminus is in Ocean City, MD, some 3000+ miles away.

Interestingly, the Wikipedia article on Hiway 50 says that the mileage figure on the sign is slightly overstated.

We have, for the last 31 years, lived within 1 mile of Hiway 50, about 35 miles east of the sign.  We have driven many 10's of 1000's of miles up and down Hiway 50 in those 31 years, primarily in Sacramento and El Dorado counties.  Clearly, it is a BIG part of our lives.

Neither of us, however, have ever driven across the country, whether on Hiway 50 or on any other route.

This summer, that changes.

We will be taking a 5 1/2 week cross country road trip, estimated to take us some 8,000 miles.  On the eastbound leg, will be following Hiway 50 the whole way.

The return leg will be more northerly, less direct, and more time consuming.  More on that as it approaches.

And, just for the record, a responsible adult live-in house sitter has been retained.
