Homeward Bound - If somewhat indirectly

The eastward part of our journey is done.

As of tonight, the first two segments of the westward part are also behind us.  In addition to traveling west, we have also come quite a bit north.

Yesterday we traveled from Ocean City MD to Monroeville, PA, which is suburban Pittsburgh.

That journey takes one through Delaware for about an hour, then back into Maryland before crossing into Pennsylvania.

An interesting sight along the way was an errant irrigation system heavily showering water on the roadway.

Another notable sight was this sign, that seems unable to abide by its own stated restrictions.

The most significant sight along the way, by far, is the Flight 93 National Memorial, about an hour outside of Pittsburgh.  This site honors the memory of 40 American heroes who stood up to terrorists on September 11, 2001.

The 'Wall of Names' is a stone wall which runs right along the flight path, and points to the impact area.  The names of the passengers and crew are inscribed into the panels of the stone wall.

The impact point itself is not accessible to the public.  It is maybe 50 yards behind a gate at the end of the wall.  It is marked by a boulder which was placed to mark the exact location of the crash.  This picture was shot through that gate.  The boulder is visible in the distance.

We cancelled our plans to go to the Pirates game due to considerable fatigue and threat of rain. We're sorry to have missed a chance to add another entry on the roster of Major League Parks that we have visited.  Instead we got a much needed extra dose of sleep.

Miles on Tuesday = 356.  TO = 3656.

Today we traveled to Sandusky, OH.  This is the first stop on our trip where we are staying more than one night.  We will be here for three nights, and we are very much looking forward to the break from the daily distance driving.

The attraction here is Cedar Point Amusement Park.  It has, so we are told, some of the very best kick-ass roller coasters in the world.  And, we already have our two day passes ready to go.

Quite possibly no blog tomorrow, because we just might stay until they kick us out, and come back and collapse into bed.

Miles today = 208.  TO = 3872.
